With the foundations of our junior program well established, we are pleased to announce that the adult offering that we added to our sailing program this summer has been very well received and is fully enrolled for all sessions. In response to a growing need voiced by the membership, we decided to offer a Learn-to-Sail course on the Club’s Sonar for the first time this year. With the addition of this class, we hoped to target both those adults interested in being introduced to the sport of sailing and those looking to hone their skills out on the water.
The classes are five weeks in duration meeting one evening a week from 5 to 7:30 and are being taught Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights. In taking this course, the participants learn the parts of the boat and other terminology, points of sail, rigging/derigging, boat handling, body positioning, and basic tuning. There is some classroom instruction but most of the time is spent sailing out on the Sonar.
If you are interested in learning to sail on the Club’s Sonar, private lessons can still be arranged with our staff, so feel free to contact Peter Stier, Sailing Program Manager, via email at pstier@corinthianyc.org or by phone at 781.631.0005 ext. 220.
